Perfectionism

Setting unrealistic expectations for yourself can feel overwhelming. While wanting to achieve high standards is natural, it can lead to burnout. Working with a therapist can help you work through the layers of perfectionism and improve your quality of life.

Strengthen your communication skills

Perfectionism can negatively impact your well-being through:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

The therapists at JuneDay can help you gain clarity and understand your reality, so you move forward confidently.

Unrealistic expectations can prevent you from moving forward.

People who struggle with perfectionism may experience symptoms such as:

  • Suicidal Thoughts
  • Eating Disorders
  • Burnout
  • Chronic Stress
  • Digestive Issues

If you prioritize high standards, you are not alone. Many people strive for flawlessness and experience deep disappointment if they can’t attain it. Working with an experienced therapist can help you develop self-awareness and embrace realistic expectations.

Depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and other mental health issues can result from unrealistic expectations. Perfectionist tendencies can trigger stress, making daily tasks seem impossible. Living life this way can lead to fear of failure and decreased mental health.

Therapy Can Help Improve Your Quality of Life

High standards can lead to harmful self-criticism that prevents you from moving forward. At JuneDay Therapy, we create a safe and nurturing space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings. You don’t have to walk this road alone because we are here to help.

Who We Are

Why Choose JuneDay Therapy

Do you remember the pure spirit you embodied at 6 years old? Over time, life’s challenges can distance you from the beautiful enthusiasm, excitement, and energy you felt for living.

When this happens, many of us develop defense mechanisms – be it anger, striving for perfection, or other distractions – as a way to cope with past traumas, the aftermath of loss, or the weight of having to mask your true identity.

At JuneDay Therapy, we believe you don’t have to feel alone on this journey; you don’t have to cover up who you are or diminish your light. We will use our experience and expertise to help you rediscover the inherent value and lovability of your true self.

Our mission is to guide you towards releasing those burdens, approaching your struggles with understanding rather than blame, and helping you reconnect with the inner person you know is striving to shine.

Perfectionism

Frequently Asked Questions

What Causes Perfectionism?

Similar to other mental health concerns, perfectionism has many layers and complex roots. Several factors contribute to perfectionism, including the history of mental health disorders. Those who have obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) or who have experienced past trauma may struggle with perfectionist tendencies.

Although perfectionism is not defined as a mental health disorder, it can result from one or lead to one. Those who struggle with depression, anxiety, OCD, or PTSD are more likely to set higher standards. This desire may come from the need to cope with underlying emotions.

High levels of stress and anxiety can lead to perfectionism. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), talk therapy, and mindfulness are effective techniques for overcoming perfectionism. Working with a therapist can help you reduce the negative impact of perfectionism and embrace realistic goals.

Perfectionism is characterized by a fear of mistakes, a need for approval, high goals, and excessive self-criticism. Individuals who exhibit perfectionism strive for validation in most tasks, see everything in black and white, and set extremely high goals with no middle ground.

People who struggle with perfectionism may procrastinate because they fear failure. They may also become obsessed with their goals and neglect other responsibilities. Therapy can help separate reality from high expectations and create clarity.
